Dance Xchange is also one of the banner projects of the Philippines, the Province of Cebu in particular as the ASEAN Cultural Capital for 2012. This will be held on April 27 – 30, 2012 at the Cebu International Convention Center, Cebu City, Philippines.

Gwendolyn Garcia is holding Dance Xchange 2012: The International Dance Workshop and Festival with the theme "Cultural Connectivity through Dance”. This event is the Philippine celebration of the International Dance Day and in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 154, declaring the last week of April as the "National Dance Week". Dance Xchange is also one of the banner projects of the Philippines, the Province of Cebu in particular as the ASEAN Cultural Capital for 2012. This will be held on April 27 – 30, 2012 at the Cebu International Convention Center, Cebu City, Philippines.
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), headed by chairman Felipe de Leon, Jr. and executive director Emelita Almosara, will hold the country’s biggest dance spectacle, the “Dance Xchange 2012: The International Dance Workshop and Festival,” from April 27 to 30 in Cebu City.
The festival is in partnership with the provincial government of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia of Cebu and spearheaded by the National Committee on Dance (NCD), headed by Shirley Halili-Cruz. Dance Xchange 2012 will bring together the best dance companies and dance experts, both local and international, for a grand celebration of dance that includes activities such as artists’ forum, dance workshops to be conducted by dance directors/dancers from participating countries, masters classes, cultural tours, festival of dance performances and concerts at the Cebu International Convention Center in Cebu City.
With this year’s theme, “Cultural Connectivity Through Dance,” the event aims to “strengthen network among dance groups in the Association of the Southeast Asian Nation and beyond; enhance knowledge and skills of the dancers, dance teachers and choreographers on dances of the different countries; showcase the unique dances of each country to enhance cultural understanding; provide venue for interaction and facilitate learning among dancers, directors, dance teachers, choreographers; and harness the potential of the Philippines to be a cultural destination in Asia.”
Dance Xchange is also in celebration of International Dance Day, created under the auspices of Unesco in Paris and held all over the world by the International Theater Institute (ITI) on April 29, and the Philippine National Dance Week, which is on the fourth week of April.
As declared by Proclamation 154, the national dance week aims “to bring together dancers to demonstrate and realize the function of dance in the society and in the rest of the world.”
Expected to participate are dance companies from Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, England, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, China (Guangzhou), Korea, Mongolia, Iran and Russia. They will be joined by the Philippines’ top dance companies.
Dance Xchange has been held for four years now—2009 in Dumaguete City, 2010 in Roxas City, Capiz; and 2011 in Metro Manila.
